What is the Indexing Service?
The Indexing Service takes an index of files and the contents of some files.  It does this to help speed up searches, but it can use valuable resources.

Should I disable it?
Unless you search for files frequently on your computer and want the searches to be quick, I would recommend disabling it.

How can I disable it?
First, uninstall the Indexing Service
1.  Go to Start | Control Panel
2.  Click "Add or Remove Programs"

3.  Click "Add/Remove Windows Components"

4.  Uncheck "Indexing Service" if it is checked.

5.  Click Next
6.  Click Finish

Then, disable the service
1.  Go to Start | Run
2.  Type services.msc and click OK

3.  Right-click "Indexing Service" and click "Properties"

4.  Change the Startup Type to "Disabled"

5.  Close the Services windows and restart your computer to finish the process.
