Basic Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) Troubleshooting
Why does IE7 always crash?
This is often caused by add-ons. This tutorial will show how to determine if add-ons to IE7 are responsible for Internet Explorer 7 restarting or crashing.
Send the error report to Microsoft if prompted, and follow any instructions they have. If that doesn't help go to step 2.
Next, try Internet Explorer with all Add-ons disabled. You can launch this by going to: Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet Explorer (no Add-ons)
If it now works, then add-ons are to blame
I now know that add-ons are responsible, so how can I fix it?
Open Internet Explorer in its regular mode
Click the Tools menu and hover over "Toolbars" and uncheck all 3rd party toolbars (such as Google Toolbar)
Restart IE and see if it works
If it does:
Enable the toolbars one by one to see which one is causing the problem
Try to update that toolbar to its most recent version. If that doesn't work, uninstall the toolbar
If it doesn't:
Open IE again and go to Tools | Manage Add Ons | Enable or Disable Add-ons
Uncheck 1/2 of the list, restart IE and see if it works
If it does:
If it doesn't:
Continue working logically disabling/enabling half of the list at a time until you find the culprit(s)
Update the related application and uninstall it if the update doesn't fix the problem.
It wasn't an add-on, what should I do?
Look at the details of the error message and research the cause on a popular search engine.
